SightSpace Pro: introducing a SketchUp-to-Field Mobile Experience

At AIA 2013, we launched SightSpace Pro, a monthly subscription to unlock the advanced features and capabilities of our mobile app SightSpace 3D (for Apple and  Android). If you are not familiar with SightSpace 3D, it is a powerful tool with Augmented Reality to virtually explore digital designs overlaid onto the live camera feed of a device. One of the best features is that SightSpace is the only mobile app that loads SketchUp files (8+) in the native .SKP format (as well as .KMZ and .KML). That means you can place your SketchUp model right onto your device using iTunes or USB, Dropbox, or email and you do NOT need a plugin or to upload to a website. The ease of SightSpace enables users to display buildings, products, designs and more – annotate, bookmark views, take screenshots, and share notes and photos. SightSpace Pro extends the capabilities of 3D by adding features including connecting an external GPS for accurate Augmented Reality, location markers for Augmented Reality that are ideal for indoor use, photo markup and annotation, animated bookmarks, dimensions, and more.

We have been in beta testing for a while with some great SketchUp users before going live. Landscape architect Daniel Tal was one of our testers and noted that the cloud reduces animation render times, “The system is also ideal for rendering animations – putting them in reach for most companies and SketchUp users. Using the Shaderlight Cloud Rendering service allows designers to generate beautiful rendered animations clearly articulating design themes and ideas.” Eric Schimelpfenig, specialist in 3D solutions for kitchen and bathrooms and founder of Sketchthis.net, observed that the addition of cloud rendering to Shaderlight is a big speed improvement. In his own words: “This new version of Shaderlight takes your ordinary machine and straps a rocket pack to it. Renders have never looked so good, so fast.”
