The new iPhone 6, iPhone 6 Plus, and iOS 8 are here and we have updated
our SightSpace line of mobile tools to support them! SightSpace 3D for Apple loads SketchUp files (versions 8 and later) in the native .SKP format (as well as .KMZ and .KML).. There is no need to use a plugin, export the file, or place it on a website in order to view your model on-the-go. Place your SketchUp model right onto your device using iTunes or USB, Dropbox, email, or the new 3D Warehouse (yes, we updated to support the new Warehouse!) If you are not familiar with this powerful mobile tool, SightSpace enables you to not only take your model mobile, but also to use Augmented Reality to overlay it onto the live camera feed of a device. View your model in the real world, in real-time. Continue reading →
We are very pleased to announce that SightSpace View, our Trimble SketchUp plugin and companion mobile app that quickly and easily deploys designs to mobile, has earned a Best New Product award from Worship Facilities and Church Production Magazine in the category of Best Website Software, Software Tools or Related Online Services. SightSpace View was selected by Worship Facilities and Church Production Magazine editors, distinguished members of the WFX Advisory Board, and WFX management to join an exclusive group of organizations deemed the most noteworthy.
At AIA 2013, we launched SightSpace Pro, a monthly subscription to unlock the advanced features and capabilities of our mobile app SightSpace 3D (for Apple and Android). If you are not familiar with SightSpace 3D, it is a powerful tool with Augmented Reality to virtually explore digital designs overlaid onto the live camera feed of a device. One of the best features is that SightSpace is the only mobile app that loads SketchUp files (8+) in the native .SKP format (as well as .KMZ and .KML). That means you can place your SketchUp model right onto your device using iTunes or USB, Dropbox, or email and you do NOT need a plugin or to upload to a website. The ease of SightSpace enables users to display buildings, products, designs and more – annotate, bookmark views, take screenshots, and share notes and photos. SightSpace Pro extends the capabilities of 3D by adding features including connecting an external GPS for accurate Augmented Reality, location markers for Augmented Reality that are ideal for indoor use, photo markup and annotation, animated bookmarks, dimensions, and more.
At AIA 2013, we introduced our newest product for Trimble SketchUp: SightSpace View. Have you ever wanted to share your designs with a client? Want to show people passing by a construction site how the building will look when completed? All of this and more is possible with SightSpace View. It is a plugin and companion mobile app to connect any Trimble SketchUp digital model with a QR code for a mobile Augmented Reality experience. When the code is scanned with the free View mobile app, users experience the 3D design overlaid onto the real-world using the live camera feed of the device (see image below for a small-scale example).
Great news! Our popular SightSpace 3D mobile viewer with Augmented Reality is now available for download for Android devices in four languages: English, Chinese (simplified), French, and Spanish! If you are not familiar with SightSpace, it is a viewer for SketchUp files (in .KMZ format) on Android (and Apple) devices. It is a powerful tool to visualize a SketchUp model in the real world, in place, by using Augmented Reality technology. Move the device and the view changes in real-time. Additional features include stereoscopic red/cyan 3D, annotate 3D models, bookmark favorite views, take screenshots, share notes and photos, and more.

Trimble hosted its annual convention, Trimble Dimensions, on Nov. 5-7 in Las Vegas. The purpose of Dimensions is to give people an opportunity to learn more about the array of Trimble products available and interact with the product divisions. Since their acquisition of SketchUp, users have been curious to learn more about Trimble as a company and have been looking for clues into how they might integrate SketchUp into other products. Dimensions offered some chances to do just that. Continue reading →
Limitless and ArtVPS, the makers of Shaderlight for SketchUp, are pleased to announce that the award-winning Shaderlight Cloud Rendering is now available! The Shaderlight Cloud is the first, and only, SketchUp rendering plug-in to use the power of the cloud to deliver high quality photorealistic renderings fast without tying up your desktop. If you are not yet a Shaderlight user, there is a 14 day free trial available to test it out.

We have been in beta testing for a while with some great SketchUp users before going live. Landscape architect Daniel Tal was one of our testers and noted that the cloud reduces animation render times, “The system is also ideal for rendering animations – putting them in reach for most companies and SketchUp users. Using the Shaderlight Cloud Rendering service allows designers to generate beautiful rendered animations clearly articulating design themes and ideas.” Eric Schimelpfenig, specialist in 3D solutions for kitchen and bathrooms and founder of Sketchthis.net, observed that the addition of cloud rendering to Shaderlight is a big speed improvement. In his own words: “This new version of Shaderlight takes your ordinary machine and straps a rocket pack to it. Renders have never looked so good, so fast.”
